Adam Pertman, President & CEO

Picture
Adam Pertman brings his experience and expertise from two highly successful careers to his role as Founder, President and CEO of Myriad Strategic Partners.

For over 20 years, he distinguished himself as a journalist for the Boston Globe – where his honors included a Pulitzer Prize nomination and where he honed his skills as a senior writer and editor. For the following decade, he established himself as one of the most-effective, respected organizational and thought leaders in the child welfare world as head of a national nonprofit that he took from a small, under-resourced organization to become the pre-eminent research, policy and advocacy think tank in its field.

Adam has delivered hundreds of keynotes, trainings and other presentations in this country and internationally. He is an award-winning book author whose commentaries and writings have appeared worldwide
in scholarly journals as well as in scores of print and online media outlets such as the Los Angeles Times, Christian Science Monitor, Boston Globe and Huffington Post, among many others. He is regularly interviewed by print, broadcast and online journalists (including for the NY Times, Washington Post, ABC, NBC, CBS, NPR, Fox and CNN) and he has been a guest on numerous programs, including “Oprah,” “Today,” “Good Morning America,” “The View” and “Nightline.” The research Adam has instigated, helped to conduct and edited – along with his writing, testimony and other advocacy – have been used to improve practice, shape law and policy, and educate professionals, students, the media and the public.

As Executive Director of the Donaldson Adoption Institute, Adam learned what it means to run an enterprise from top to bottom, leading its growth organizationally and financially; conceptualizing and executing its programs and projects; shaping and implementing its fundraising and marketing; creating collaborations and external relationships with other key leaders, nonprofits and businesses; and producing significant, high-impact work products to serve its constituencies through highly effective use of media, legislative testimony and other advocacy. Adam began developing his extensive knowledge of and connections to the media while at the Boston Globe, where he served as Foreign Editor, Washington News Editor, Diplomatic Correspondent, National Political Reporter and restaurant reviewer. His assignments included the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Gulf War, the Mideast peace process, the O.J. Simpson trials, and several presidential and congressional elections.

Adam brings the writing, editing and communications expertise he developed as a journalist – along with the organizational, strategic, programmatic and development skills that enabled his success in the nonprofit sector – to Myriad. Examples of his diverse clients include the Walt Disney Company, Stewards of Change Institute, Medical Marijuana of Massachusetts, the Whitaker Group, the CedarBridge Group and child welfare agencies around the U.S. His honors include a congressional Angel in Adoption award; the Special Friend of Children Award from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; an Adoption Excellence Award from the US Department of Health and Human Services; the Dave Thomas Center for Adoption Law’s first award for “the nation’s greatest contributor to public understanding about adoption and permanency placement issues;” the President’s Award from the African American Cultural Council of Virginia; a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Florida Adoption Council; and, when he was a journalist, an award from the American Adoption Congress “for his eloquent witnessing of contemporary adoption.”

Jane spent most of her career as a designer for the Boston Globe, including as art director for the Calendar, Focus, Living and Home sections. Her diverse work there ranged from overseeing photographers and illustrators to working with editors to create vivid, creative imagery to bring stories to life. After leaving the Globe, Jane went on to design ReVista magazine for the David D. Rockefeller Institute for Latin American Studies at Harvard University.
